Winter Hair Assembly: Bangs, Long-Locks and Accessories
Gentle snow falls are calling for a winter hair assembly! The chill in the air makes my heart skip a beat as the wind blows my hair back out of my face, and I am reminded how wonderful winter can be. We are finally free of humidity and hot, wet air. This allows us the grand opportunity to do what we couldn’t (or wouldn’t) do with our strands in the summer.
BANGS If you have been thinking about bangs, now is the time. The sweat off your brow has been sworn off for the season, making your forehead hang a VACANCY sign for any fringe that happens to cross your mind. Now is the time to try shorter framing and even fringe, every factor is working in your favor this time of year. Find pictures that match your face, see how bangs look on your face shape. Find pictures of bangs you hate and bring those to your consultation too. Knowing what you like aaannd what you don’t like is essential for finding your best bang. Ask your stylist to explain the styling routine, and pick their brain about what products make bang life easy. It’s going to be a new year after all, why not a new you?
LONG LOCKS Let your lengths engulf you! Layers galore! Huge curls, even bigger blowouts, and perhaps a hair pin to top it all off. Leaving your length is practical in colder months. Your hair is now your hat and scarf. It will wrap you up and keep you warm, but won’t overheat you like it does in our sweltering summers. Your hair is likely to hold a style better this time of year as well, the elements aren’t working against you. Curly girls, try a blowout, the humidity won’t steal it from you now. Straight haired girls, curl your strands, the longevity of the style you worked to achieve is more unwavering now. Tease it, tangle it, but please TREAT it. Put a mask in before bed, braid and rinse in the morning, the dry air will steal luster from your locks! Seal in moisture with KM YOUNG.AGAIN masque or HYDRATE.ME masque. Oil your ends every night before bed. Snowed in tonight? Coat your hair in a treatment while you lounge by the fire. Long hair is only ever as lovely as you make it. Take care of your lengths and they will be the shiny star atop the glowing tree that you are.
HAIR ACCESSORIES Elevate any outfit with an accoutrement! The ornaments of hair dressing! Pins, barrettes, headbands, earmuffs, hats and begrudgingly, bows. Yes I suppose bows have always been here and they always will have a solid stock in holiday hair dressing. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with the bow agenda, allow me to suggest barrettes! Sweep back one side of hair and tuck it behind your ear and secure with a pin! A great way to level up long hair that’s down and simply styled. Headbands, always gorgeous, apply and push forward for some volume up front, pull baby hairs out of the sides by your ears to frame your face and soften the push back. Going to the Christmas market? Skiing? A walk in a winter wonderland? Hats and earmuffs! I love a faux fur hat or a big warm pair of earmuffs, especially if I haven’t washed my hair in a while….. Winter head accessories finish a look, and give you another day before you wash. Beanies, trapper hats, berets, toboggans, newsboy caps, and my personal favorite, russian cossack hats. Try something new and stay warm while doing it.
Winter is here, who knows for how long, why not lean into it and use this time to try something new? Stay warm and a very happy holidays and a happy new year from Indie Mane!
